Data Usage
Use of CivicPulse data – whether reproduced or manipulated – must include prompt attribution. You should clearly state which dataset(s) your product references and how you have manipulated the data, if relevant.
Referring to CivicPulse
First mentions of CivicPulse should link to the CivicPulse hosted URL for the research or data product being referenced. If no online file exists, or if reference is made more generally to CivicPulse’s work, please link to https://www.civicpulse.org.
Each reference to CivicPulse research, data, or other materials not previously cited should include a hyperlink on the first mention of content from that page.
Please keep in mind that “CivicPulse” is one word. Please ensure that your word processor or editor does not add a space.
Images
Images may be reused but should not be altered in any way without prior permission. If the image does not include CivicPulse’s logo, “source: CivicPulse” must be written directly below the image. If the reproduction method does not allow for this (ex: social media), then “data and image from CivicPulse” must be included in the accompanying text. Please tag us in all social media posts you make that reference CivicPulse work!
Dashboards
Dashboards should not be embedded into non-CivicPulse websites without prior permission. Acceptable usage of dashboards includes linking to the CivicPulse page where the dashboard is hosted and reproducing image, PDF, or PowerPoint files that explicitly list CivicPulse as the source.
Logo Usage
CivicPulse logo usage is intended for internal and approved partner usage only. You may share CivicPulse work that contains our logo, but you may not add a CivicPulse logo to derivative products without explicit permission from CivicPulse’s Managing Director.
Academic Citations
Data Citations
Use of CivicPulse data requires appropriate citation. Beginning September 2024, all data codebooks will include instructions for bibliographic citations. For codebooks prior to this, please use the following citation format:
CivicPulse. (Dataset year). “Dataset name.” Rochester, NY: CivicPulse. URL. (Access date).
Citing Research Products
Please ensure that you include bibliographic citations for all CivicPulse products used in your paper. These include (but are not limited to) briefs, reports, dashboards, images, and website pages.
